Miyazaki’s Latest Rakes in Over 10 Billion Yen
In a box office leap that’s matched only by his last film, Howl’s Moving Castle, Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea went past the ¥10 billion (US$91 million) mark in its theatrical run, even managing to beat the time it took for the former to reach that point.
The next stop for the film should be the 65 Cannes Film Festival, with at least some limited showings beyond that in order to secure consideration for the Academy Awards. If we come across news of showings in the US, we’ll be sure to let everyone know.
