The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians

The Stories of Girls Who Couldn't Be Magicians

While not a magical girl anime in the strictest sense, The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians has a lot of mahou shoujo DNA. This pastel-pretty series is based on the award-winning web novel by Yuzuki Akasaka. At its heart is Kurumi Mirai, who met a magic user as a child and received a magic notebook from her. But her dreams of becoming a magician are dashed as, despite acing the mock exam for a prestigious magic school, she failed the real deal.

But maybe she still has a chance.  Minami Suzuki, the new teacher of the standard class, can wield magic without a notebook. And she’s determined to make her students—Kurumi included—into magicians. But there’s another force at work at the school that could work against Kurumi’s dreams.

The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Become Magicians is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Acro Trip

Acro Trip

As fans of magical girl anime, we want to see our faves shine in the face of danger. Young fan Chizuko, the star of this season’s Acro Trip, knows that all too well. Living in the same town as adorable vigilante Berry Blossom has changed Chizuko’s life. But she’s found herself falling in with an unexpected ally: Chroma, Berry Blossom’s nemesis.

See, Chroma isn’t an especially strong nemesis. Because Berry Blossom defeats him so easily, the public has lost interest in the heroine. The solution? Chizuko must join her idol’s adversary to beef up his defenses and make her battles more compelling. Oh, and Chroma’s base is under her grandfather’s house, so there’s no hiding from this guy.

Acro Trip is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.

What happens when magical girl anime crosses over with office comedy? Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.! Based on the Jump+ title Magilumiere Co., Ltd., this series imagines a world where being a transforming heroine is kind of like being an on-call exterminator. Sent out after monster of the week called Kaii, these ladies weave their magic through proprietary software.

Heroine Kana Sakuragi starts the series on a job hunt. Her main skill? She can research and remember so much. When a Kaii attacks during a job interview, she finds herself assisting veteran magical girl Hitomi. And from there, she finds herself employed at magical girl startup Magilumiere. And it’s not long before she gets a clearer view of what this unique business world is like.

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
