A second season was announced for the Lockdown Zone: Level X ‘light anime’ in October, and now a premiere date is in place. The continuing series based on the story by Romy Oishi is set to return on CBC TV in Japan on February 21, 2025.
Hikaru Sato (The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You) directs the series, with kidlit on music for the IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio production. The story originally debuted as a chat-style novel in 2017, followed by a manga version by meshe in July 2020. The manga ended in March 2022.
Denpa published the manga alongside its Japanese release, summing up the story like so:
Lockdown Zone: Level X Plot
Ryoka is awakened by flurry of text messages from her mother! Panicked and rushed, Mom is clearly concerned for Ryoka’s safety but she is not to keen on letting her daughter know why. And the reason behind that is nothing could really properly describe what is happening! The world might be ending! And there might be an unidentifiable being on the roof of their apartment building!
The term ‘light anime’ is used to describe shows with limited production values and a simple style of animation, with the aim of cutting down on the cost and time of production.
