Kyary Pamyu Pamyu sings Crayon Shin-chan opening

Here’s a story that nicely dovetails our love of anime and pop idol/Harajuku hero/incessant Twitter user Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. The 19-year-old, best known in the U.S. for last year’s “Pon Pon Pon” and accompanying insane music video, has been busy lately. This past week saw both the release of her new Halloween-themed single and her first anime opening theme.

The new tune, “Kimi ni 100 Percent,” is the theme for this year’s season of Crayon Shin-chan, a famed comedy series about a child performing bizarre, inappropriate behavior. Suffice it to say, Ms. Pamyu is a perfect fit. As usual, the track was written and produced by DJ Yasutaka Nakata, best known for his work with Perfume and his own duo, capsule.
The singer, whose full stage name is Caroline Charonplop Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, took the stage at TV Asahi’s Dream Festival event earlier this month to announce the song, accompanied by Crayon Shin-chan’s Shinnosuke.
