What’s the most important thing for an isekai anime hero to do? Join a guild? Defeat/seduce/become the demon lord? No: the most important thing is to make sure you have all the comforts of home! Whether it’s household appliances or an entire book printing industry, some things you just can’t live without. And that’s definitely the case for these three dimension-hopping protagonists.
Check out the daily conveniences they’ve brought to their new fantasy lives. And make sure to keep up with their adventures all season long!
The Abacus
Villainess reincarnation has become a mainstay of isekai anime. The latest to join the ranks of our beloved Bakarina is Grace Auvergne… or, rather, Kenzaburo Tondabayashi. The star of From Bureaucrat to Villainess doesn’t have it in him to live his new life as a heartless aristocrat. Instead, he’s bringing his flawless dad skills to bear, helping otome game protagonist Anna Doll live her best life. And yes, that includes abacus lessons.
Kenzaburo swears by the mathematical machine and has the Auvergne family craftsman make several for student council use. And they’re a hit! They also allow Anna to bond with some of her love interests by teaching them how to use the device. Which, considering most of the school is falling for Grace, is definitely a plus.

The Clothespin
We generally consider isekai anime settings to be full of things we don’t have: magic, for instance. But while most of these worlds have a touch of magic to them, they lack modern advances—even tiny ones. Kenichi Hamada, the star of The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World, learns that almost immediately. And he turns it into a business plan, buying interdimensionally from an online store and marking up his goods. At first he considers things like pepper and jewelry to be big sellers. But imagine his surprise when the humble clothespin is his top item!
Modern clothespins equipped with metal springs are a godsend in Kenichi’s new world. And once those little gadgets have caught his buyers’ eyes, he can upsell them on zirconia necklaces and hunting knives. But it all started with a little invention we take for granted.

The Toilet
Isekai anime is great, but do they have indoor plumbing? Not often. So when Takumi Iruma sets out to become possibly the greatest alchemist of all time, he puts that knowledge to good use. Sure, he can make impossible pure health potions. But his expertly crafted porcelain thrones, complete with purifying magic, could potentially change a lot. And, of course, make him filthy rich.
Of course, Takumi didn’t set out to become a toilet magnate. He just loves magic and alchemy. But one whiff of the sewers under town changed his trajectory, at least for the moment. Fortunately, his brilliant “invention” will benefit far more people than just himself!
