Gegege no Kitaro Anime Has 50th Anniversary Project in the Works

Today is the 50th anniversary of the first TV anime adaptation of the late Shigeru Mizuki’s classic Gegege no Kitaro manga, and it looks like some big plans are in store. While the specifics of those plans remain a mystery at the moment, an anniversary site went live to trace the history of the series’ various anime adaptations.

The first adaptation ran from 1968 to 1969, and the website follows that history all the way up through the most recent series that aired from 2007 to 2009. Time will tell whether or not we can look forward to a sixth series in the future, but an announcement covering the details of the new project is on the way.
