It’s time to wake up and shake off those winter blues. The spring anime season is right around the corner, and some of our favorite action anime are coming back! After the cold winter we’ve had, we’re ready for some high-octane fights and vigilante heroics. And we’ve really missed the characters and worlds of these shows. Join us as we take a look forward into what the new season has to offer!
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
While My Hero Academia itself isn’t back, its world definitely is! My Hero Academia: Vigilantes explores a world outside U.A.: the world of unlicensed heroes. Our protagonist is Koichi, who uses his Quirk “Slide and Glide” to do heroics without a license. Togther with Pop☆Step and vigilante Knuckleduster, Koichi (a.k.a. Skycrawler) exercises his power as a vigilante himself. The series runs adjacent to the main story of My Hero Academia, and you may even see a few familiar faces in the mix!
The series kicks off April 7. But if you can’t wait to get started, you can read the manga on the Shonen Jump app!
WIND BREAKER
One of the most beautiful action anime we’ve seen in a long time, WIND BREAKER is back for a second season next month! The CloverWorks anime adaptation follows Bofurin, a gang of high school thugs who have declared themselves the protectors of their town. Sakura, the new kid, originally wanted to fight his way to the top of the school. But with the help of his new classmates, he’s learned how to use his strength to look after others.
The new season will adapt the manga’s KEEL arc, in which Bofurin faces down a fearsome white-jacketed gang with a dark underbelly. How will our boys fare? Catch up to season 1 now, and prepare for season 2 starting April 4!
Fire Force
The end is extremely flamin’ nigh for this action anime. Season 3 of Fire Force will address the next Great Cataclysm, adapting the genre-busting, world-bending final chapters of Atsushi Ohkubo’s manga. There’s a grinning moon in the sky, pi is no longer infinite, and… well, things are getting especially crazy.
Readers of the original manga know that these final arcs are absolutely packed with strangeness. From changes in art style to changes in genre, it’s no stretch to say that Fire Force is literally a whole other series by the time it ends. (A whole other very specific series.) We can’t wait to see how the anime adaptation handles the events of the manga… especially certain visual choices in the pages of the manga. Watch the first two seasons now so you’ll be ready when season 3 starts on April 5!
