The Japanese brand UNIQLO is known for its everyday classic tees, bottoms and outerwear, but also for its anime collaborations. Recently, the brand launched DAN DA DAN, Mofusand, and Dragon Ball DAIMA. Its latest collaboration features Doraemon and the Louvre museum on four new graphic tees.
Doraemon is a classic Japanese manga and anime series about a robotic cat from the future who travels back in time to help a clumsy, good-hearted boy named Nobita. Created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the manga first debuted in 1969, quickly winning fans with its heartwarming and imaginative stories. It was later adapted into an anime in 1973, but it wasn’t until the 1979 reboot that it truly took off, becoming a beloved staple of Japanese pop culture.
Doraemon is seen on every possible novelty item imaginable in Japan: clothing, gachapon and household items. But a Louvre collaboration is certainly a new and novel idea for the friendly blue robocat. UNIQLO has featured classical and traditional art in the past, such as its MoMA Art Icons collection and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Ukiyo-e collection, but this collaboration is a fun twist on classic paintings and classic anime.
