Another anime is on the way to adapt an isekai fantasy series, this time with the reveal of a TV anime adaptation for writer Yuu Shimizu and illustrator Makoto Aogiri’s Otherworldly Munchkin: Let’s Speedrun the Dungeon with Only 1 HP! manga.
There’s no release date at the time of this writing, but the anime now has an official X (formerly Twitter) account. The first teaser visual launched along with it, sporting the tagline “Swords, Magic, and Random Numbers.”
Mamoru Yokota (animation supervisor for Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc) is directing for the Durandal production. The series will be the studio’s debut anime work.
Illustrator Makoto Aogiri shared the following celebratory illustration and comments:
Makoto Aogiri said:
“I had always dreamed that it would be wonderful if Otherworldly Munchkin became an anime. I was so surprised to hear from the editor of the manga that it had been decided to make an anime, and I still clearly remember the exchange that day when I repeatedly said ‘For real?’ I can’t stop getting excited just imagining how Yukito and his mates will move, talk with each other and go forward in the scenes that I have depicted in the manga! There will be a lot of new information to be announced in the future, and I hope to enjoy the anime together with you all!”
The manga has been running on Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine’s “Suiyoubi no Sirius” site on Nico Nico Seiga, and currently has 11 collected volumes as of today in Japan. Kodansha USA publishes the English edition and sums up the story like so:
Otherworldly Munchkin Plot
16-year-old Yukito Kirihara lives with his 14-year-old sister Sana, who he treasures more than anyone else. But when an ogre shows up outside of his window looking for Sana (a shocking event in its own right), Yukito leaps to save her—and is killed. He’s offered the promise of reincarnation by a mysterious woman, who gives him a character sheet in a mysterious book. But when Yukito sees Sana in there, too, he sets off to find her, and save them both—even if he only has 1 hp with which to do it!
