This week saw Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global service adding a new title in writer 138 Neko and artist Souchu’s Otaku x Gal manga, AKA Gal ni Yasashii Otaku-kun. The English localization of the series joined the lineup earlier today.
The Otaku x Gal manga first debuted via Square Enix’s Gangan Online website in December 2022, and has been collected in two volumes so far as of December 2023. The manga is based on a light novel series by 138 Neko—featuring illustrations by Nanami Narumi, with Souchu handling the original character designs—which launched in February 2022.

Otakura is a nerdy otaku and Narumi is a popular gal—two students from complete opposite ends of the high school social hierarchy. Their paths unexpectedly cross when Narumi asks Otakura to use his crafty skills to help with her many hobbies! An otaku comes to understand a gal’s interests in this high school rom-com!
