Communication is central to any healthy relationship. The ability to make your feelings known prevents misunderstandings, builds trust, and — in many cases — allows people to get together in the first place. So it’s no surprise that lack of communication accounts for much of the drama in both real and fictional couples… including these anime couples of the fall season.
Some aren’t a couple yet, but could be if they’d get talking. Some are and just need practice. And then there’s that in between area, where everyone but them realizes they might as well be dating. No matter the situation, we’re rooting for them!
Psyger-0 and Sunraku: Shangri-La Frontier
These two make our list of fall anime couples on a technicality. They’re not actually together yet. But Rei Saiga’s crush on schoolmate Rakuro Hizutome is strong. How strong? So strong that she’s fighting her way through god-tier game Shangri-La Frontier just to hang out with him. Of course, she never suspected that his time obsessing over trash games would make him strong enough to skip whole tutorial villages.
Fortunately, the game-centric fall series finally let the two cross paths in-game as Psyger-0 and Sunraku. Will Rei finally get a chance to tell her crush how she feels? Will she impress him with her monster-killing abilities? We’ll just have to find out!
Allen and Charlotte: I’m Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness
Put together one misanthropic wizard and one put-upon noble, and what do you get? For starters, one of the cutest anime couples this season. But I’m Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness is about much more than teaching Charlotte to love herself. There’s a romance blossoming, but neither Allen nor Charlotte quite realizes it yet. Everyone else sure does, though.
As Allen teaches Charlotte wholesome lessons about letting herself enjoy life, he starts to open up a little, too. His friend and sister both see it: this meek noble has breached his defenses, and he’s spoiling her for reasons beyond life lessons. After shopping trips and a hot spring vacation, could these two finally admit their feelings for each other?
Runa and Ryuto: Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and the Inexperienced Me
Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and the Inexperienced Me features one of the most unlikely anime couples this season. And that’s saying something. Shy but kind nerd Ryuto crushed on popular girl Runa from afar and only asked her out on a dare. He wasn’t expecting her to accept! But despite her vast experience, her relationship with Ryuto is as full of surprises as it is for him.
While Ryuto is entirely new to dating, Runa is new to being respected. So when miscommunications come up (in the form of rumors and unspoken worries), she’s not sure how to address them. If their relationship can weather the two-month mark, though, they’ll both have learned something.
