Believe it or not, Liz and the Blue Bird is five years old. The Naoko Yamada film, a spinoff of Kyoto Animation’s Sound! Euphonium franchise, was a fan and critical favorite when it came out back in 2018. Now you can celebrate the film with a limited-edition glass.
There are only 500 of these glasses, which are made in the Edo Kiriko style. Carved into the glasses are images from the film as well as “N” and “M” for the lead characters Nozomi and Mizore.
Shipping in February of next year, they’re currently up for preorder and will cost a pretty penny — 34,800 yen. But hey, that’s “only” like $230 at the current exchange rate.

Students and best friends Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki prepare to play a complex musical duet, “Liz and the Blue Bird,” for oboe and flute. Though they play beautifully together and have been friends since childhood, Mizore and Nozomi find that with graduation looming and the duet proving difficult, their friendship begins to buckle under the pressure. Interspersed with their story is the fantasy tale of Liz, drawn like a storybook, contrasting with the crisp realism of the school. These two distinct styles weave with stirring music to tell a intimate coming-of-age story.
