If you’ve been wondering what acclaimed director Naoko Yamada will be doing next, some light was shed on her future projects in a recent interview with Anime News Network. Next up for Yamada—who previously helmed features like A Silent Voice and TV anime such as The Heike Story—is another feature film with anime studio Science SARU.
There isn’t much in the way of info beyond that, including a title, but we know that Yamada will be directing, and is currently handling storyboards. Yamada’s first feature with Science SARU, Garden of Remembrance, is due out in 2023.
Known for her beloved work at Kyoto Animation, including K-ON!, Sound Euphonium and more, Yamada left the studio in 2021 to join Science SARU as a director. We’ll have to wait to see exactly what it is she’s working on there, but the prospect of another new Yamada film from the studio is exciting.
